16/08/17 11:43
On 14 October 2017, the third piece in my ‘Vanitas’ trilogy of music theatre pieces will be premièred in Kamakura. is nowhere free of bad tidings? is a site-specific work for five Japanese traditional instruments in a traditional tea house and garden setting. The players also sing a variety of texts drawn from Latin proverbs, Kamo no Chōmei’s Hōjōki, and waka poems by the Kamakura-era shōgun Minamoto Sanetomo and the Buddhist poet-priest Saigyō Hōshi.
The event also includes a performance of a koto duo by Jo Kondo, and Japanese premières of pieces by Michael Pisaro, Eva-Maria Houben, and Frank Denyer. Visual artists Beatriz Inglessis and Setsuami have both made artworks which will be displayed in the performance area, and tea will be served with a bespoke Japanese sweet as part of the performance.
