12 February 2026: 'Music and the Nonhuman' concert 7
25/01/26 17:40
My first concert in Tokyo since 2022 will be on 18:30 Thursday 12 February 2026 at Tokyo Concerts Lab (near Waseda). It’s a concert of solo percussion pieces (with an emphasis on timpani) performed by Kyohei Sugihara. He will perform all three of my solo percussion pieces: ‘Muons’ (2016), ‘Discarnate Seeds’ (2022), and will premiere ‘though frost settles’ (2025).
The concert also features two pieces by Eva-Maria Houben, ‘Only some sounds in the wind’ (2024) and the premiere of ‘Fo(u)r Timpani’ (2025), as well as premieres of ‘When heaven meets earth in thunder’ (2025) by Nana Kamiyama and Sugihara’s own ‘Distance VI -...Rain, dew, paired flowers…-‘ (2025).
The concert constitutes a public presentation of my research-as-practice work into the relationship between the human concept of music and sounds made by nonhuman entities. As such, it is funded by JSPS and tickets are free. However, we request that you register in advance via peatix, at this link: https://musicandnonhuman7.peatix.com
